HERMITAGE HIGH SCHOOL FIELD HOCKEY

Hermitage High School’s girls field hockey coach Kathryn Bradt DellaFera had a dilemma-practicing with goals on their practice field. Games were not the problem since the goals, which weigh approximately 150 lbs each, are always on their game field but are not able to be moved to where the team practices. So they would make due with cones as goals but it wasn’t the same as hitting a ball into the goal and a lot of time was spent chasing balls. Cover 1 reached out to the Hermitage Activities Director, Chris Rollison, to see if any of their teams were in need of anything and he immediately mentioned the need for practice field hockey goals. Upon learning of this need and the specs of what Coach DellaFera would like, the goals were ordered and delivered by the Cover 1 Foundation along with another wish list item, protective goggles for the players that did not have them.

Bryan Miltenberger, Monacan High School’s Baseball coach, recognized from day one of taking over the program that he has limited resources. High school baseball programs need to operate with an extremely low budget, gate receipts and fundraising to cover the most basic expenses. The immediate needs identified were new uniforms and new bases. Cover 1 stepped in to meet these needs and allow Coach Miltenberger to focus his limited budget in other areas. From Coach Miltenberger-“We don’t have the resources, especially in the current environment, to get what we need to resurrect our baseball program. We are very appreciative of Cover 1 to help us with some areas of immediate need.”

Scholarship Opportunity

We continue to look for new opportunities to assist in the community. The Board recently approved giving two $1,000 college scholarships for athletes attending City of Richmond schools. Additionally, we are attempting to work with a local basketball organization to see if we can help with registration fees for any athletes with distressed financial situations. With the recent shutdown of winter sports, the basketball organization has stepped up to form a league so the athletes can compete. The Board felt this was a perfect situation to execute the mission of Cover One. We are hoping to help in a big way.
